This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
-What is the problem addressed and the context which triggered the introduction of the practice?
The scarce awareness of people on the importance of biodiversity in their daily-life in term of recreational value, ecosystem services, health and economy.
-How does the practice reach its objectives and how it is implemented?
The nature track starts from the seafront, passes through the pinewood and ends in an important naturalistic area with temporary ponds where people can do birdwatching and benefit the spectacular habitats with the typical lilac flowers creating a breath-taking show. It allows local people and tourists to discover it and to learn important information on these precious areas present in the territory enhancing eco-tourism. The advertising for Campomarino Lido derived from the fact that this track has socio-economic impacts e.g. local people and tourists can use it for a track in nature but also for jogging having benefit also for health.
The track was implemented following the existing paths fencing them using naturalistic engineering techniques and placing every 150 m panels with the description of habitats and species important for biodiversity conservation. These panels had been implemented in wood and the contents are very simple to reach the majority of people and even children.
-Who are the main stakeholders and beneficiaries of the practice?
Local people
Tourists
Owners of bars and restaurants
Politicians

Evidence of success
Increase of 30% on the number of events organised in these areas for ecological excursions;
Increase in the average number of participants to the excursions;
Increase in the use of the track for fitness and recreation purposes;
Satisfaction of stakeholders who work on food because they have work even in low season.

Potential for learning or transfer
This track had the power of pointing the attention on the conservation effort done during the Life Maestrale Project involving local people and tourists. This kind of practices allow exit the elite of people who work on ecosystem preservation and enter the reality to develop a real sustainable touristic development. It is possible to make people be actually aware on the importance of ecosystem services, on the importance of nature, and on the benefit that a different form of tourism can have on their health and recreation. This can be done in all the places that still have besides the over-exploitation of the dunes and seafront areas some places that maintain a naturalistic value. Indeed a nature track that underline how the conservation of these important and vulnerable places is crucial for people and ecosystem welfare. The success encountered in implementing this practice make us be very confident that if proposed elsewhere could be effective.
