European Urban Initiative call for peers
European Urban Initiative (EUI) supports European cities working on Sustainable Urban Development through funding for innovative action projects, capacity building and knowledge activities. As part of their capacity-building activities, the EUI offers city-to-city exchanges, peer reviews and events.
There is currently an ongoing call for EUI peer reviews that will close on 13 November at 12:00 CET.
What is an EUI peer review?
An EUI peer review is a 2-day capacity-building event bringing together around 20-25 EU cities to solve challenges related to the design and implementation of Sustainable Urban Development strategies. Capacity building reinforces the skills, abilities and resources organisations and communities need to adapt to changes in the world.
Following open calls for applications, urban authorities are selected to join peer review events in the role of either ‘City Under Review’ or ‘Peer Reviewer’. In 2025, EUI expects to support around 24 Cities Under Review with the review of their strategies through 6-8 events.
How does an EUI peer review differ from an Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform peer review?
- EUI peer reviews are open only to urban authorities
- For the role of City Under Review (i.e. those defining the challenges to be tackled): Only urban authorities on the list of ‘Article 11 cities’ may apply. These are the urban authorities responsible for the design and implementation of ERDF-funded Sustainable Urban Development Strategies
- EUI peer reviews focus only on improving Sustainable Urban Development Strategies funded through Article 11 of the ERDF Regulation
- EUI peer reviews are larger events with 50-60 participants coming from around 25 different urban authorities
