This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The main urban transport problems in Padova are traffic congestion and noise, low air quality and important commercial vehicle traffic into the city centre. The city has defined a restricted access zone, called ZTL (Zone with Limited Traffic).
The aim of Cityporto is to optimize and consolidate the urban distribution of goods in order to contribute to the decongestion of traffic in city centres.
Cityporto transit point is located inside the freight village area of Interporto Padova, just 2
miles outside the City Centre and close to the
major highways. This is a strategical location because of:
-Availability of logistics platforms
-Neutral role with freight transport operators
-Development of a dedicated IT System for Cityporto services
The freight transport operators deliver their goods with destination to the city centre – Limited Traffic Zone and closer urban ring – to a logistics platform in Interporto Padova dedicated to the consolidation of the deliveries.
IT System support the managing of the daily delivery plans: Cityporto eco-friendly vehicles leave the platform and cover the «last mile» having maximized their loading capacity in benefit of reduced number of delivery trips at best.
Actors involved: Interporto Padova (intermodal terminal); City of Padua; Commerical Chamber of Padua; A.P.S. Holding A.p.A., freight transport operators.
