Cultural Tourist Ethnographic Complex Chengene Skele
About this good practice
The implemented project addresses the problem of Burgas as a seasonal tourist destination by increasing the attractiveness of the village formation "Chengene Skele" transforming it in a year-round tourist destination with preserved intangible cultural heritage and nature.
Specific objectives:
► Creation of a new tourist product with the potential to overcome seasonality in the Burgas region;
► Improving the tourist image of the region;
► Creating conditions for the preservation, promotion and retransmission of the intangible cultural heritage between generations;
► Increase knowledge regarding traditional crafts, authentic customs and folklore;
Introducing open air tourist attractions and experiences that can be considered relatively safe from Covid spread
Achieved results:
Created new material and intangible product;
Improved tourist image of the region;
Conditions created for the preservation, promotion and retransmission of the intangible cultural heritage between generations;
Increased knowledge regarding traditional crafts, authentic customs and folklore;
New tourist ship, established new maritime touristic route
Increased capacity of 100 people meets current environmental standards
Installed photovoltaic panels, with capacity of 5 KW, provide up to 70% of the ship's power supply
Established public collective maritime transport link
Resources needed
Cultural and tourist complex Chengene Skele is built with crossfunding under the European Maritime and Fisheries Programme 2014-2020 and operational program "Regions in Growth" 2014-2021 with total grant of 160 400 euros
Evidence of success
The measure promotes eco-tourism practices and sustainable development of marine protected area as nature-based tourism destination that provides alternative open air experiences – boat trip, open to the sea leisure activities, yachting, outdoor amphitheater, camper stop zone
21614 passengers used the new ship to get there since its opening in July 2021. The project project proved successful in increasing area's attractiveness and accessibility by providing public water transport link.
Potential for learning or transfer
The practice may be of high interest to other areas with similar preconditions due to the use of nature-based solutions and use of natural materials in the development of sustainable eco-tourism destination and ensuring a green ecological maritime public transport service connection to the area.

• Outdoor activities for big and small;
• Stage for cultural events 10 meters from the sea;
• Large open space giving opportunity for social distancing;
Facilities are provided for healthy lifestyle
• There are 4 parking spaces for disabled people
• Provided are outdoor picnic facilities-wooden tables and benches
• Outdoor open scene amphitheater for events and performances
• Small water docking stations for water leisure activities, and private vessels
• The area provides all aspects for recreation- a promenade, culinary practice room, children's playground
