This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The overall objective of the project is to increase the quality of the inhabitants' lives, sustainable, competitive and sustainable development of Alba Iulia Municipality by diversifying the sources of production, technology and infrastructure for the production of electricity from renewable sources (solar), reducing local CO2 emissions, in line with the conventions and strategic priorities assumed by Romania in relation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the European Union Specific Objectives (SO):
- SO.1. Ensuring the energy sustainability of 4 public institutions subordinated to Alba Iulia Municipality - "Dorin Pavel" Technical College, Elderly Home, Elderly Day Center, Programs Directorate, by producing electricity using the local solar potential as a result of the installation, The interconnection with the National Energy System (NPS) of 1714 PV panels, with an installed capacity of 257 kW
- SO. 2. Reduction of CO2 emissions in Alba Iulia with over 500 tons per year and 12,500 tons in 25 years of operation of the PV park installed through this project.

Resources needed
A feasibility study was firstly developed for evaluating the potential energy savings and the needed solutions with necessary costs for transforming the identified buildings in “greener” ones. The total project value was almost 2 million Euros and it was financed largely from Structural EU Funds.
Evidence of success
Through the deployment of solar power, a saving of more than 80% in energy costs was achieved in the four selected locations. The total installed power of the photovoltaic panels is 257 kW which translates into an energy production of 303.28 MWh / year. It has also led to a reduction of CO₂ emissions into the atmosphere by about 212.5 tonnes/year.
Potential for learning or transfer
As proven by the success of the project in Alba Iulia, other municipalities may follow this example and use the local potential for renewable energy in their area.
