Events related to the protection of traditional folk costumes

About this good practice
Each event refers to the protection and preservation of traditions, awareness rising and promotion, besides assists the transfer of values for the future generations. These events reach their objectives thanks to the community cooperation, the implementation is undertaken with exemplary co-organization.
The local stakeholders and the main beneficiaries of the good practice include people from all age categories, include the value preservers and also the visitors of the county.
I. The Day of the Thousand Szekler Girls – is the feast of the folk costume, dance and religion. The target group is composed of 0-70 years old people from the urban and rural area as well. The number of participants is given by the 25 tradition preserving folk ensembles (1000-1100 dancers and musicians wearing folk costumes), in total 3000 participants wearing folk costumes, from approximately 100 localities.
II. “Csűrdöngölő” Children Folk Festival – The aim of the organisers is the presentation of the local traditions and making them known and getting them loved by the emerging generation in the context of a children and youth folk dance meeting. The target group is composed of 3-14 old children. The number of participants is growing each year.
III. The Day of Szekler Folk Costume – Every person who has folk costume is encouraged to wear it entirely or a piece of of the costume in this day and to go to the workplace, to everyday businesses or even to shopping.

Resources needed
In the organization of these events were involved 25 people (from the participating institutions and organizations).
The annual budget for the children folk festival (Csűrdöngölő) was 20000 lei (approximately 4500 Euro), of which the contribution of Harghita County Council was 15000 lei (3500 Euro)

Evidence of success
In the children folk festival (Csűrdöngölő) participated 2000 persons (of which 1500 were the dancing children, wearing traditional folk costumes), in the Thousand Szekler Girls festival participated 3000-3500 persons (wearing traditional folk costumes).
Potential for learning or transfer
In case if we would like to make something alive, we should organize promotional event linked to it, we should also make it ongoing. We should involve in the activities the value preserving and protecting people and the youth, starting from an early age.
