About this good practice
In Hungary there is a room for development in enhancing the cooperation between the business and research sector. Low level of the domestic corporate R&D and innovation activities, under-utilization of existing capacities and results, missing or weak cooperation among the actors of the R&D&I procedure are characterizing the economic situation. Supporting clusters could be a solution to lower the lack of willingness in cooperation and to strengthen the technology transfer. During the 2007-2013 programming period the call: ‘EDOP-1.2.1. Supporting joint technological innovation of Accredited Innovation Clusters (AIC)’ aimed to give dedicated support for catalyzing cooperation, implementing joint R&I, technical and service development projects between cluster members (enterprises, universities…). The Economic Development and Innovation Operational Program (EDIOP) follows (EDOP) during the 2014-2020 programming period. ‘EDIOP-2.2.1: Supporting R+I cooperation for competitiveness and excellence The main starting point of the “new” call was to strengthen the cooperation between business sector entities and between the business and the research sector. The aim was to give dedicated support to consortia (at least one research organization (universities or academic research entities and one partner from business sector) catalyzing cooperation, implementing technical and service development.
Resources needed
Applicable amount: 1,16 m EUR – 6,6 m EUR/project Annual budget in Euro: 343 m EUR from the state funded (EU co-financing) Economic Development and Innovation Operational Programme (EDIOP) 2014-2020.
Evidence of success
Number of supported projects: 96 R&I projects were supported by the end of 4th period. The average is 3,3 partners/project. Granted amount was 237 million EU.
Potential for learning or transfer
The call for proposals might be interesting for other regions because this kind of co-operation projects focus on innovation (not only R&D) and provide support along the whole innovation supply chain from the idea to the market entry. Special requirements: Existing cluster and/or other cooperation
