About this good practice
In Slovenia, the project "Integration of public passenger transport" has been implemented, with which the passengers obtained a single ticket, more transparency in the passenger transport system and better management and is one of the most important measures at the state level.
In August 2016, the Ministry of Infrastructure introduced the integration of passenger traffic. A common train and bus ticket, as well as for long distance and city transport, can be used by schoolchildren from September 2016.
Integrated public passenger transport, which is carried out throughout Slovenia, is currently only valid for subsidized tickets, that is, for pupils and students and for participants of adult education. For example, the Passenger, who will travel from Point A by bus or train to point B, no longer has to buy two tickets, but will need only an electronic card with a chip on which the ticket will be written.
This way the railway and bus transport will be included, and urban and long-distance transport as well. The latter will apply also to Ljubljana and Maribor, and other cities. It is a pilot project launched by the Ministry of Infrastructure in June 2015 last year and will last until September 2016 this year. The contractor is the IJPP consortium (IJPP -Integrated public passenger transport), which includes the Slovenian Railways, Ljubljana and Maribor passenger transport, and the technological subcontractors are Imovation and Margento.

Resources needed
The implementation has cost less than four million euros, 85 % were obtained from European funds. For maintenance in the next five years they will spend a little over a million euros, and they would like to include operators of subsidized city traffic in 5 additional Slovenia cities.
Evidence of success
Integrated ticketing is available now for approximately 56.000 pupils and 34.000 students. 34 % of users buy rather yearly ticket and 75 % of them are satisfied with the prices of the public transport. 55% of users take inter-urban traffic and 62% of them travel with the same transport operators. 83 % of users is aware of the positive effect that brings the integrated transport offer (e.g. use of more than one transport mode of public transport, use of more operators, lower subsidized prices).
Potential for learning or transfer
1. It reduces unhealthy competitions while encourages free and healthy competitions.
2. It is a means of perfect transportation by using all modes of transportation harmoniously as a single system to provide transport services.
3. It enhance effective use of all transportation modes.
4. It is cost efficient.
5. The system is environmental friendly when you compare it with each mode operated independently.
6. It enhances capacity, reliability and safety when you compare it with operating each mode independently.
7. It is aimed at satisfying customer’s i.e. (passengers) needs as efficiently as possible.
8. The system has the capacity to achieve greater productivity and economy.
9. It creates no room for unnecessary gaps. Every mode is efficiently used.
10. It creates unity and cooperation among transport industries.
