About this good practice
Haciendas Bio is an agricultural company which main production is fruit and vegetables. Since 2017 the company has been operating an innovation technology park that incorporates a training and research centre.
One of the main changes that Haciendas Bio has made is to install a management system where you can study the consumption and assess what part of the process can be improved.
This will help the company to evaluate their weaknesses and aid us in what way the RES will influence this process.
The project objectives are:
• Reduce the power required (measuring the collection hours, functionality periods….)
• Maximise the use of RES with a cogeneration system and PV.
This management system can reduce the company’s energy consumption by between 30-40%.
The study has been carried out by consulting engineers and to date, the company has installed a PV plant after applying for a grant Decree 115/2015. This PV plant consists of 6 block panels which work in synchronisation among themselves, one of the blocks will act as the main source and all the others will work on demand.
The future and the ideal scenario for the company will be to implement a mix energy system in which the energy is obtained from the grid (200KW), the PV plant (300KW) and the cogeneration plant (235KW).
At the moment they have installed the photovoltaic plant and in the future, they will like to implement the cogeneration system.

Resources needed
The project cost was 350.000€. However, Haciendas Bio had applied for a grant provided by the Regional Government (Decree 115/2015) in 2016 which covert 40% of the cost. (Decree 115/2015)
Evidence of success
This PV plant is contributing to 37 % of energy demand. This will result in an important saving especially during the summer months because of the large number of sunlight hours.
Potential for learning or transfer
The management system which this company has installed in the factory is the most effective way to manage the energy consumption in the different stages that take place within the factory.
First of all, the collection of vegetables and fruits had a different energy demand than the one needed in the production area. The energy provision will depend on the schedule of the factory. The collection of the vegetables and fruits is carried out in the early hours of the morning while the production activities take place later on in the day. Therefore, we can direct the energy to the right place at the right time as needed.
The energy production is by the RES, in this case, the PV plant.
