This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The project is part of a larger project that, in recent years, involved the entire area of Panperduto, starting from the signing of an agreement, signed in 2010, by the Consorzio Est Ticino Villoresi, the Lombardy Region, the Province of Varese, the Municipality of Somma Lombardo, Lombardo Park of the Ticino Valley, Navigli Lombardi Scarl and Enel Green Power SpA, with the intent to safeguard the hydraulic system present on site; thanks to regional funding it was then possible to restore the old tollhouse, by transforming the old settlement in a modern hostel. Further interventions were carried out which allowed the realization of the Water Games Garden near the Museum and the extention of the visit route by laying educational installations and signs with technical, historical and environmental information about the area. Moreover, thanks to significant community funding, the Consortium has recovered the dells of Panperduto, re-launching the idea of navigating on the internal waterways.
Resources needed
Over 1,000,000 euros allocated by the Consorzio Est Ticino Villoresi, the Lombardy Region and the Locarno-Milan-Venice Association
Evidence of success
The evidence of the results achieved is found in the increase of inflows that have affected the Museum (3.074 in 2016, 4123 in 2017), in the success of the initiatives organized by the receptive-tourist services operator hired by the Consortium and the collaboration started with the Swiss institutions who participated in the project.
Potential for learning or transfer
The collaboration created between the institutions and the consequent synergies, have contributed to creating a greater integration between Italy and Switzerland. The most successful factors are to be found in full respect of the project, in the integration of the cross-border tourist area under the banner of a real sharing of common tourist resources (Lake Maggiore, the river Ticino and the system of Lombard channels).
