About this good practice
- Having access to open data about public transportation and other involves a great cooperation between institutions in charge of the public transportation sector. Sometimes it is available but not centered in a single platform which may difficult the good usage of the information.
- The open data service on public transport in Cáceres aims to share all the information (stops, lines, schedules and real time bus location) with everyone interested. The information is free and can be found and downloaded on the platform's website (http://opendata.caceres.es/dataset/autobuses-caceres and http://opendata.caceres.es/dataset/estado-flota-autobuses-caceres. The information can be used to create smartphone applications making the information more usable to population. This platform can also nurturing an environment of entrepreneurship because it gives enough tools so that applications can be developed by everyone with the necessaire skillset. The goal of this project was to provide to all citizens and tourists of Cáceres, information in real-time on city buses by giving enough tools so apps could be made.
- The main stakeholders are the municipality of Cáceres and QUERCUS Software Engineering (Extremadura University). While the main beneficiaries are the public transport users and the application creators.

Evidence of success
Data provided on platform are used in several Apps that have allowed to reduce the traffic jams in the city (i.e. “ATM’s” allows to find out ATM near to parking place avoiding double row parking). Other Apps inform on real time about events in the city that impact on daily traffic (i.e. “Semana Santa” that informs on street closed to traffic due to this event). The most used App, “Real Time Buses”, has achieved a most efficient urban transport by reducing the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions
Potential for learning or transfer
If a city has information available, joining all of it in a single platform may be useful to everyone. It is needed to join efforts with the local transport operators so they make important information available, and also have the technicall habilities in order to translate the data into opendata formats.
