Photovoltaic installation in ACENORCA
About this good practice
“Acenorca” is an olive company, supplied by 20 cooperatives from the area, which covers the products of over 4000 associates. The main plant can transform 25 million kgs of olives, where the production destines 80% to table olives and the 20% remaining to the olive oil.
All the little agro-industry enterprises related to the cooperatives are the main stakeholders, and also the beneficiaries of this good practice.
The high consumption that the olive need in both transformation process (table olive and olive oil) is the reason why the cooperatives thought about a new way of energy, and improve their installation with renewable energy (in this case PV plant).
Nowadays it has three manufacturing factories, the main one is in Montehermoso, dedicated to table olive, where we can find the photovoltaic installation.
The PV panels are located in the rooftop of the curing factory, in this way they don´t waste cropland space.
The installation is formed by 90 photovoltaic modules, each one with a producing capacity of 330 Wp, total power electricity of 29,7 kWp.
The kind of panels used in the installation ensures that in the panel’s life, this will give at least 80% of the production during 25 years. Producing in the worst condition 23,76 kWp.
Also, the installation has a grid inverter of 27 kW which provide a monitoring system. With this implementation, the beneficiaries can control the consumption, improve the weakness that system reports.
Resources needed
In 2016 the cooperatives applied to a public grant provided by the regional government, being approved in 2018.
It covers 40% of the final cost of the installation, and the rest has been provided by the associates.
The project cost was 75.000 €, of which 30.000 € has been subsided by a grant.
Evidence of success
Acenorca enterprise had reduced the consumption of energy power in the electricity system with a self-consumption installation. Nowadays this installation has a return period of over 12 years, the saving estimated is over 6.000€ per year.
Potential for learning or transfer
This GP is a stereotype of “how” is the government working with all the applies they have requesting nowadays for a grant.
This company at the beginning needs to reduce the cost of the energy bill, and they had thought that the best way to do it, was with a renewable energy source. In Extremadura we have a measure of solar irradiation 5,1 kWh/m2, making this source one of the most important and profitable sources.
Acernorca, applied to a grant in 2016, with a previous project of PV installation, they had done it in 2017 and until 2018 the installation doesn’t have started to work. (being this year the one the government had approved).
The potential of learning we have with this GP is the methodology of the regional government. Once you apply for a grant and have all the documentation delivered, you can start the installation when you want.
The only issue is that the company needs to advance the economic part of the installation.
