Priority Program "My water"
About this good practice
The objective of the program is to increase protection against the effects of climate change and natural hazards. The program is intended to contribute to increasing water conservation and minimizing drought in Poland through increased retention on properties with single-family dwellings, including the collection and use of rainwater or snowmelt. Key to this is the development of green and blue infrastructure. The aim of the program is to build 67.6 thousand backyard retention facilities and manage 3.38 million m3 of rainwater and snowmelt per year.
Beneficiaries of the program are to implement a rainwater or snowmelt retention and management system (purchase, installation, construction, commissioning). An application for funding from the program should be submitted to the provincial fund for environmental protection and water management, together with documents confirming the costs incurred (e.g. purchase invoices) and documents proving that the installation has been completed (completion protocol or self-certification).
The program is addressed to natural persons who are owners, co-owners, or perpetual usufructuaries of real estate on which a single-family residential building is located, excluding real estate for which funding has already been granted from the 'Moja Woda' program. The subsidy also applies to owners, co-owners, or perpetual usufructuaries of properties on which construction of a single-family residential building is planned or has already started.
Resources needed
The budget for the implementation of the programme objective is up to PLN 100,000,000.00,(22 413 986,33 EUR) including: for non-returnable forms of co-financing - up to PLN 100,000,000.00.(22 413 986,33 EUR.
Evidence of success
According to data provided by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW), a total of 8178 subsidy applications were submitted between 3 and 9 August alone (6205 were applications registered on the Beneficiary Portal and 1973 were applications submitted to the provincial environmental funds). The amount of subsidy applied for is over PLN 45.6 million. The average per application is therefore over PLN 5.5 thousand.
Potential for learning or transfer
Support can be obtained under the Moja Woda program for projects that will result in rainwater being retained within the property covered by the project. The effect of storing rainwater or snowmelt from the property is to stop it from being discharged offsite (e.g. into domestic sewers, stormwater drains, combined sewers, drainage ditches draining off the property, neighboring areas, streets, squares, etc.)
