Insights and takeaway messages

The online cluster meeting on climate adaptation aimed at presenting the projects of the first and second call working on climate adaptation and related topics such as nature-based solutions and at identifying synergies, opportunities for collaboration as well as topics for future events and deliverables of the Policy Learning Platform. 

The projects identified a range of policy challenges in relation to climate adaptation:

• Lacking knowledge about climate adaptation measures and nature-based solutions
• Financing climate adaptation measures and nature-based solutions
• Missing climate adaptation policies and lack of continuity in policy implementation
• Lacking understanding of the benefits of climate adaptation measures
• Finding the right mix of green and grey infrastructure
• Permitting and planning process for nature-based solutions

The following potential subjects for collaboration and follow-up have been presented by the projects:

• Financing, funding mechanisms and investment planning for adaptation projects
• How to ensure continuity, improve governance and raise the awareness of decision-makers
• Monitoring the impact of adaptation measures and availability of data
• Risk assessment methodologies
• Designing and funding nature-based solutions for climate risks
• Training and awareness-raising at local level
• Valuing biodiversity and the benefits of eco-systems services

On 11 September 2024, from 10:00 to 11:30, the Policy Learning Platform is hosting an online discussion for Interreg Europe projects on climate adaptation. 

The session will bring together several project partners working on climate adaptation to discuss the project focus and aspects that could support project development. 

The discussion will start with an introduction round, followed by an exchange to identify areas of mutual activities such as joint webinars, matchmakings and sharing of documents, to foster close cooperation among all partners working on the climate adaptation topic.
