On 03-04 June 2025, the Policy Learning Platform is organising a peer review for the Municipality of Martres-Tolosane, France, on the topic of enhancing local economic development by creating an 'arts of fire' ecosystem

Building on a previous strategic study and the renovation of the former Matet earthenware factory, the Municipality seeks to encourage the installation of craftsmen to maintain the earthenware tradition, but also to develop arts and crafts in the commune.  The peer review will provide insights from European experts to help them establish an ecosystem that supports artisans, fosters training and innovation, encourages collaboration, and promotes sustainable development.

The peer review will therefore focus on...
  • How to foster and promote innovative developments in craft sectors and businesses?

  • How to stimulate the uptake of new technologies and processes in craft businesses?

  • How to foster the collaboration of craft businesses with research and technology institutions?

  • How to foster the development of innovative and sustainable ecosystems and value chains building on traditional craft sectors (ceramics as well as others)?

  • How to market and promote the crafts businesses / sector to make the region attractive for talents and further businesses, as well as for tourists?

This event is by invite-only. The key learnings will be shared afterward.
