Expanding E-Mobility at the regional level

On 10 April 2025, the Policy Learning Platform will host an online workshop on expanding E-Mobility at the regional level.
The transition to e-mobility faces significant challenges, primarily related to the roll-out of charging networks, which require substantial investment in public charging points and home charging solutions. Additionally, the strain on electricity grids and the need for renewable energy integration add complexity to infrastructure expansion.
Without sufficient charging infrastructure, range anxiety remains a key deterrent for users, slowing down the adoption of electric vehicles.
E-mobility also encounters challenges in business models and public acceptance. Companies can struggle to establish profitable charging networks due to high installation costs and uncertain use rates.
Meanwhile, consumer scepticism persists due to concerns over battery life, resale value, and charging times compared to the convenience of traditional fuelling. Misconceptions about EV performance and a lack of awareness further limit adoption.
Overcoming these challenges, which differ in difficulty in rural or urban areas, demands coordinated efforts between governments, technology providers, and energy providers to develop sustainable policies, incentives, and education campaigns promoting e-mobility.
This online workshop will explore innovative solutions to the provision of charging infrastructure, approaches for tackling socio-economic barriers, and consideration of business models and public acceptance.
