About the project
Astro-Tourism, the use of astronomy and its heritage (as dark skies or historical observatories, museums, planetariums) for developing tourism packages and activities is an innovative and promising sector in the eco-tourism. Previous EU funded projects addressed experiences and policies related with astronomy or the sky, light pollution or similar issues. ASTROTOUR will develop co-operation initiatives, best practices sharing and transferring of results in policies documents of different partners involved, to made possible a scaling-up of the capacity of different European areas to use Astronomy as sustainable tourism attractor, with benefits to local jobs, economy, and social development of involved communities. The project will develop especially policies addressed to use science for developing the culture of local communities in a shared way, and to strength the social and economical ability to answer to external impacts of different issues (like COVID-19) to local systems.
