About the project
Lille Metropole is a Public authority of 1.2 millions inhabitants on a territory of 95 municipalities both rural and urban. An area of 26 municipalities provide 40 % of the territory’s drinking water supply. Alongside these 26 municipalities, Lille Metropole propose a new model of development, renouncing to any urban expansion in this area aimed at inventing new ways of housing, economic activity, agriculture, mobility, in order to protect this water resource.
Our aim is to create a EU partnership based on this project addressing several issues-objectives:
A new planning approach based on the water cycle &zero urban expansion as key elements
Implementation of agricultural transformation in order to turn it compatible with ground water preservation (less consumption, less chemicals, no land sealing)
Experimentation of payment of ecosystems services
