Upper Palatinate District

In Bavaria, the districts are the third municipal level alongside the municipalities and counties. They are self-governing bodies and therefore legal entities. They are administered by the district councils which are local parliaments elected every 5 years.

The districts perform those tasks that go beyond the capacity of the counties. These are tasks in the areas of social affairs, culture & local heritage, education and nature, insofar as these have a supra-local connection.
