a industrial building creating hydrogen, the building looks sustainable and it's written H2 on it, the sun is shining

On 6 May 2025, the Policy Learning Platform will host a webinar on Advancing Hydrogen valleys.

The transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy requires integrated and strategic approaches to energy innovation and industrial transformation. Hydrogen valleys have emerged as key enablers of this transition, fostering regional ecosystems that harness hydrogen technologies for green industrial development.

By leveraging Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3), interregional complementarities, and tailored governance frameworks, hydrogen valleys can drive economic growth while contributing to climate neutrality

This webinar will bring together policymakers and regional development stakeholders to explore how hydrogen valleys/ecosystems can be effectively developed and scaled.

This session will examine the interplay between regional industrial strategies, technological advancements, and governance models that support the deployment of hydrogen solutions supplying different sectors.

The webinar aims to:

  • Introduce the hydrogen valley concept and its role in the green industrial transformation, emphasising its alignment with regional S3 strategies.

  • Discuss interregional complementarities, highlighting how different regions can collaborate to optimise resources, infrastructure, and innovation potential for hydrogen-based value chains.

  • Examine governance models that facilitate multi-level coordination among public authorities, private sector actors, industry and research institutions to enhance policy coherence and investment attractiveness.

  • Explore policy instruments that support hydrogen ecosystems development

  • Showcase best practices from regions that have successfully implemented hydrogen valley initiatives, demonstrating replicable models and key success factors.
