Location In person | Thessaloniki, Greece
By Platform

On 28 and 29 June 2022, and after more than two years, the Policy Learning Platform is organising its first onsite workshop of the year in Thessaloniki, Greece. The topic of the event will be behaviour change and participatory processes for sustainable mobility.

What it will be about

Europe’s transition to sustainable mobility will require the involvement of all sectors of society, actively including citizens and stakeholders in the decarbonisation process.

This will involve ensuring that mobility planning fits around the needs of citizens, but also that they are motivated to make the change to active and public transport.

Development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) requires the co-ordination of multiple stakeholders, including public users, lest plans be rejected by the public or be sub-optimally taken up.

Engagement of users in planning, however, is a significant challenge for many public authorities, who lack the necessary skills and experiences.

At the same time, the public need to be motivated and empowered to change their behaviour to make use of low-carbon transport and active modes such as walking and cycling. Getting people to break their habits and shift away from private vehicles remains a key challenge for policy-makers.

Agenda

The event will take place at the Mediterranean Palace. It will consist of two days, during which several sessions will take place.

28 June | Workshop | 9:30 to 17:30 EEST

This workshop will be moderated by our Low-carbon economy thematic experts, Katharina Krell and Simon Hunkin.

It will put the spotlight on good practices and approaches to:

  • participatory processes
  • behaviour change motivation

It will also include an interactive session co-moderated with the E-smartec project, to inspire the participating Interreg Europe partners with new ideas to develop their own SUMPs and active transport campaigns.
