About this good practice
Since the Roman Empire that Oliete is planted of olive trees. Since them, the depopulation and the olive oil low price did people stop taking care of the olive trees and they turn wild.
Olive trees need to share their wisdom and feel human care to award them with their golden liquid. Cultivation does not only consist of planting and letting the tree grow, without attention it is destined to disappear.
The Foundation Adopt an olive tree was the solution for this problem. And it is a multi-level project, namely cultural, social environment and agrofood level project:
With LEADER support training activities in schools and for raising awareness about environment, social action and sustainable food took place. Around 300 students have been trained. Olive oil is a key element in all this actions.
There is a nonprofit organization involved in the olive tree recovery process, providing mentally disabled workers. They belong to the network of land stewardship too.
A blockbuster in Oliete, a gripping story, a superhero with a green cape embodied in a tree that can do something nobody else can: neutralize carbon emissions taking advantage of the fact that 40 years it’s the time a tree takes to become an adult and have a significant demand of carbon. Also, it promotes natura 2000 Network as the olive’s trees belong to it.
Drop by drop each bottle of oil is filled and is sent to the adopters with a social, solidary and sustainable character undoubtedly making it special.

The foundation value the natural resources, the biodiversity conservation and the generation of a sustainable and social economy, thus avoiding the disappearance of endangered species and the depopulation.
It has more than10.000 olive trees adopted. More than 5.000 godfathers and 10 staff. Each month visits to the olive grove are organized so that sponsors and friends get to know their sponsored olive tree and get to know its surroundings, astonishing them with its ancestral natural and cultural heritage, also oil tastings to learn about the properties of extra virgin olive oil.
