About this good practice
Project was implemented by Veliko Tarnovo Municipality,Calafat Municipality and Face for Art and Culture Foundation under INTERREG V-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme.
Main objective of the project is to assess and improve the sustainable economic use of the potential of cultural values and resources of the common cultural heritage in the
Romania-Bulgaria cross-border region by developing an integrated tourism product based on the promotion of a new joint thematic route "Art&Culture", contributing to
supporting the sustainable development of tourism.
The project activities aim to contribute to achievement of the following specific objectives: promoting the tourism development in the region; improving cultural infrastructure; diversification of tourism products and services in the region.
For the successful implementation of the project was prepared a Marketing Strategy for the realization of an integrated tourist product, including a joint thematic route "Art&Culture", which will serve to promote the new integrated tourist services provided at regional and international level. Thematic route "Art&Culture" provides an exciting journey in search of art and culture on both sides of the Danube.
Tourists can visit beautiful buildings, palaces from the past with interesting stories, hiding rich collections of works by local and foreign artists and immerse them self in the world of theatrical art.
Resources needed
The budget for the realization of the project for all partners is 1,487,271.41 EUR, out of which the amount of the EU contribution is 1,264,180.69 EUR ERDF.
Evidence of success
•Created 2 joint integrated tourist services:1 trilingual web-portal and 2 joint trilingual smartphone apps. Developed 2 common strategies for valorising cultural and natural heritage
•Realized 15100 tourist overnights
LB transformed cultural site Boris Denev Art Gallery into a modern arts centre and created integrated tourist product on both sides of Danube
Due to delivered equipment in Marincu Museum,at 2 workshops with children and at final conference in Calafat project outputs were promoted
Potential for learning or transfer
Good practice is suitable for transfer to cross-border regions where exist specific cultural resources in order to promote,valorize and improve the sustainable economic use of the cultural heritage.
Thematic Integrated Route "Art&Culture" helps to better utilize tourism potential,increasing number of overnights in the region.Suggested tourism product shall support region's sustainable economic,cultural and social development with potential to attract tourist flows and to raise revenues.
Through construction works in modernized Art Gallery Boris Denev,separate spaces for archives,workshops and seminars were established to turn gallery into place for cultural exchange and a centre for exchange of practices of modern and classical art.In investment area were organized and held workshops,lectures,open lessons for students of University,high schools and colleges. Space next to the gallery and interior premises were transformed into centre for organizing concerts, sports and cultural events.
