This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
It is a partnership project of local governments and the Tuchola County. The tourism sector in the Tuchola Forests required support because it is one of the most important branches of the sub-region's economy. The areas of Bory Tucholskie has been recognized by UNESCO as a model area in which harmonious economic development and touristic economy development takes place by combining uncontaminated nature with preserved material and non-material culture.Owing to the implemented project, the existing tourist facilities of the Tuchola Forests as well as the accessibility and visibility of the route were improved. Moreover, economically advantageous and comfortable services of this sector were created. In addition, the tourist facilities have been improved along the route and the beaches along the lakes as well. This was achieved thanks to the coordinated activities of several municipalities aimed at improving attractiveness, safety on the tourist route and the promotion of the Brda route and natural and landscape resources of the Bory Tucholskie region. The preparation of piers for mooring, the roofed shelters, and bicycle racks is an incentive to use various routes and choose such a form of green mobility in order to discover the richness of the nature in the region. One of the main objectives of the practice was to improve the accessibility of the route while respecting natural conditions and values, the availability of inter-modality as well as sustainable mobility.
Resources needed
19 648 205,36 PLN (~4 569 350,08 EUR); 11 788 923,21 PLN - EFRR (~2 741 610,05 EUR); 100% public budget , officials involved in the preparation and implementation of the project.Local government office workers who were engaged to work on the project(2 coordinators and 1 person from local partners)
Evidence of success
An extensive real partnership, thanks to which individual municipalities could select natural resources requiring investments to develop their tourist function and encourage visitors and residents to use the routes. There is no precise data concerning the number of tourists visiting the Tuchola Forest annually but we have been monitoring the use of the project infrastructure:e.g.bicycle path usage - we planned 20000 users, registered more than 50 000, Observation Tower in Fojutowo-24000visitors
Potential for learning or transfer
Extending the range of tourist offer with infrastructure, such as: water tanks, campsites, observation tower, bicycle path and development of surrounding lakes will increase the attractiveness of the trail and accessibility for a larger group of users. The way of using the places along the trail as recreation centres, bases and other attractions makes it possible to more fully utilize the potential of Bory Tucholskie area to organize trips on the trail without using infrastructure lying far away from the trail.
