Capitalization of transnational cooperation for SMEs – "Kapi.Tra.BW"
About this good practice
"Kapi.Tra.BW" is a regional funding program established by the regional Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism to support measures implementing and spreading project results of transnational cooperation in the frame of the EU macro strategies Alpine Space and Danube Region, the 4 Interreg B cooperation areas North-West Europe, Central Europe, Alpine Space and Danube Region,.within and for SMEs. Proposals might include e.g. delegation trips, cooperation forums or development of new business models and can be submitted by SMEs themselves as well as by business support organizations, clusters and other intermediaries. In its third call, the program focused on Covid-19 impacts on SMEs and macro-regional cooperation by linking the program to the joint call "innovation express 2021. Proposals for this call had to consider the thematic areas of 1) AI in Health and 2) Digital solutions for sustainable industrial solutions. To submit a proposal, applicants from Baden-Württemberg had to cooperate with at least one party from Brandenburg (DE), Fribourg (CH), or Salzburg (AT).
Resources needed
For the 3rd Call, funding covered a max. of 12 months and consisted of a sum between 25,000 and 75,000 €, covering max. 80% of eligible costs

Kapi.Tra.BW has so far launched 3 calls, in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Potential for learning or transfer
Kapi.Tra.BW is a good example of how the impact and sustainability of transnational project results can be exploited for SMEs beyond a project’s duration. The funding program also encourages further regional and interregional cooperation by connecting SMEs, intermediaries, clusters etc. as project partners.
