Circular Rhein.Ruhr - The network for circular economy
About this good practice
Duisburg and the region are characterized by energy-, material-intensive industry and logistics. Due to increasing CO2-price in the European Union it faces rising pressure to actively change its industrial base from a linear economy to a circular economy. To accelerate the circular industrial transformation, the network is focusing on three strong sectors: metal, construction and logistics by using the region's innovative strength to close material cycles.
Duisburg Business and Innovation (DBI) engages in the development of projects, with both national and international partner networks. The network Circular Rhein.Ruhr is a joint initiative of Wirtschaftsbetriebe Duisburg and DBI. It is initiated with delegation trips that have the purpose of establishing business relationships, which benefit Duisburg and the region. Further, the network is engaged regularly vis-à-vis meetings with political decisionmakers to set up the framework for a circular economy.
Circular Rhein.Ruhr was initialised in July 2023 as a cluster management organization consisting of companies and institutions from Duisburg and the region, with the task to supported companies in increasing the use of secondary materials in production and along the value chains.
Stakeholders: City of Duisburg, Wirtschaftsbetriebe Duisburg AöR, GEBAG Duisburger Baugesellschaft mbH, Niederrheinische IHK zu Duisburg, thyssenkrupp MillServices & Systems GmbH, Duisburger Hafen AG, FEhS – Institut für Baustoff Forschung e.V.
