This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The stock of organic matter in soils has drastically decreased in Hungary as well. Although there is a millennial tradition of replacing organic matter with manure, today the manure production of reduced livestock does not cover the needs of crop production. At the same time, the range of environmentally friendly products is constantly expanding, and their sales prices now make the products of both field crop production and fruit and vegetable production competitive.
The consortium undertook to develop an environmentally friendly and energy-saving process, the so-called “organic material treatment centre” that performs controlled, yet industrial-scale, controlled extraction and sterilization of deep-litter poultry manure on an industrial scale.
With the help of the “organic matter treatment centre” established, the company produces a multi-composition, individually formulated organic Bio Fermentum product family free of pathogens and weed seeds through closed system technological processes.

Resources needed
5 million EUR R&D GINOP grant. This amount also includes the improvements to the manufacturing centre and the establishment of a new diagnostic laboratory.
Evidence of success
With the investment created as a result of R & D project implemented with the cooperation of a well-established consortium, about 15 new jobs were created at the premises of Baromfi - Coop Kft.
The new plant has a total capacity of 60,000 tons of organic poultry manure processing per year. It handles the annual production of approximately 75 million chickens and hens for poultry manure. This capacity can later be expanded to 100,000 tonnes per year.

Potential for learning or transfer
The process begins with a controlled fermentation. Then, after drying and sterilization, the matured uncovered chicken manure is used as a raw material for the production of products with various contents and user-friendliness. The products can be used in arable crops, open-air and sprouted vegetable production, ornamental plant production, vineyards, fruit and strawberry plantations, nurseries and grassland.
The investment significantly reduces carbon emissions and increase the fertility of our soils, using a number of state-of-the-art technical solutions not previously used in this form.
For regions having significant volume of poultry farms it can be a way to follow applying for R&D Funds and cooperating with regional research institutions and relevant local enterprises.
