About this good practice
The e-business-pilot Magdeburg was part of the promotion initiative e-skills network for companies, which has been promoted by the German Federal Ministry of Economic and Energy. For many of small and micro enterprises, the eBusiness pilot Magdeburg was the central provider-neutral and trustworthy contact point to get in touch with ICT.
The focus of the eBusiness pilot Magdeburg was on the subject areas:
- IT security,
- Data protection,
- Online marketing,
- Optimization of business processes,
- Knowledge management and
- Process management and ERP.
The range of services offered by the eBusiness included individual information meetings to clarify specific problem solutions for individual companies, regular IT-meetings, internal workshops, for example on IT security and data protection, and general information events at six event locations in the Magdeburg region. In addition, the eBusiness pilot Magdeburg took part in regional trade fairs and information days for business-related institutions. Via the website of eBusiness pilot Magdeburg, the pilot informed about current dates and current ICT topics. The pilot's website also offered a download area for information materials, flyers and guidelines and access to the IT service provider database for Saxony-Anhalt.

Evidence of success
The ebusiness-pilot supported round about 70.000 companies in the district of chamber (of industry) and commerce Magdeburg in the North of Saxony-Anhalt. Circa 80 % of these companies have less than 50 employees, more than 40 % of them have less than 20 employees. Due to the low number of employees many SMEs don't have their own IT department. In this case, the pilot supported these SMEs by supporting in using ICT. The promotion initiative ended after three successful year in September 2015.
Potential for learning or transfer
With the eBusiness Pilot, small and medium-sized enterprises were able to receive low-threshold advice on the subject of ICT and digitisation. The personal approach and spatial flexibility of the consultants also made it possible to reach SMEs in rural areas. In addition, the consultants also acted as intermediaries for other experts (funding consultants, IT specialists, scientists, etc.).
