ElectricUP – Financing programme for the development of charging stations network
About this good practice
Since air pollution has become an increasingly serious problem all over the world, Romanian authorities have decided to support the increase in the production capacity of electricity from renewable sources with an installed power between 27 kWp - 100 kWp, to ensure own consumption and the development of real electromobility at the national level by increasing the number of recharging stations for electric and electric vehicles plug-in hybrid, all this in an attempt to reduce the total amount of GHG in our country. In this regard, SMEs and economic operators in the HORECA field can opt for the installation of photovoltaic panel systems for the production of energy needed for their own consumption and the installation of 1 charging station with minimum of 2 charging points, investments that are financed through this program. The program covers 100% of the expenses necessary for these investments, but not more than 100,000 euros for each submitted project. The surplus of energy produced and not used for own consumption or for powering electric vehicles will be delivered to the national grid, thus reducing the dependence on fossil fuels. The purpose of the program is to increase the degree of use of renewable energy sources and the development of ecological transport with low GHG emissions.
Resources needed
The program is financed from the state budget, in several financing cycles, for the period 2020 - 2026. The total value of the program is almost 100 million euros
Evidence of success
In the first project submission session, there were 2536 applicants, of which 1881 were declared admitted. Since this was the first call of project proposals it is expected that in the next period 1881 projects to be implemented and, in this regard, there will be approximately the same number of charging stations as the number o projects approved (minimum 1 per project) with 2 charging points each station.
Potential for learning or transfer
Decreasing air quality is a major problem for the health of citizens in many large and medium-sized European cities. Along with other methods for improving air quality, the granting of financial support for this type of investments will be a major plus in our attempt to reduce GHG emissions.
