FOSTERING THE «TWIN TRANSITION» OF TOURISM OPERATORS IN MARCHE REGION
About this good practice
The initiatives promoted by Marche Region to foster the “twin transition” of Tourism Operators (TO) working in the regional territory include:
- the establishment of a regional Destination Management System (DMS), tool that allows TO to insert and display in “thematic clusters”: information, events, services, itineraries and tourism packages.
- The Marche internal areas are particularly fragile territories, which have undergone a process of demographic decline over time, but which present significant potential in terms of natural and cultural heritage.
Through the project: “BORGO ACCOGLIENTE” (Welcoming Village) the Marche Region provides financial incentives for the implementation of initiatives aimed at fostering the revitalization of rural and historic villages.
The initiative particularly fosters local synergies including public and private entities.
- Provision of financial support to SMEs investing for improving the sustainability and technological innovation of existing accommodation facilities through restoration and conservative redevelopment interventions.
With particular focus to the following products and services:
• CULTURE – Facilities promoting the cultural resources of the surrounding area;
• BIKE and TREKKING – Facilities promoting “Slow” and “eco-sustainable” tourism;
• BUSINESS – Facilities specialized in hosting work meetings through the provision of conference rooms and advanced digital services.
Resources needed
Marche Region invested funds from the Rural Development Program, the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund 2014-2020, for a total amount of approximately 43 million euros. In addition to resources from the Italian Ministry of Tourism amounting to 176.190 EUR.
Evidence of success
The following results were achieved:
• Contributions for 30 Public/private business-oriented micro investments for tourism purposes will be provided in 2024 (total budget: 3Mln EUR).
• N.119 projects for the redevelopment of real estates funded (total budget 18,840,123.27 EUR);
• The upgrading of tourism services and infrastructures in n.44 historic villages and rural areas will be made available in 2024.
• The improvement of digital devices/tools providing touristic information and e-services.
Potential for learning or transfer
The strategy for fostering the “twin transition” of tourism operators promoted by Marche Region has an high transferability potential as it has been entirely funded by European funds available to all regions within the European Union.
Among the key factors that contributed to fostering the strategy successful impact it is worth underlying:
- The financing, as a priority, of initiatives promoted by public and private synergies;
- The valorization of thematic networks and initiatives promoted by consortia of tourism operators operating at regional level.
