About this good practice
The main goal is to help SMEs to avoid the business closure by using early warning tools and offering personalized support, through specialized advisors.
The first step of the service is providing a full diagnosis of SME situation. This diagnosis is done using Early Warning tools, that includes a risk assessment, accountancy situation, strategy, processes, operation, etc.
Considering the result of the diagnosis, one of these paths is proposed to the entrepreneur.
- Consolidation & Growth: path proposed to those SMEs that are solvent and viable and need some help to consolidate the business and make it growth.
- Restructuring: path proposed to SMEs that are no solvent, but the business model is meant to be viable, especially to those SMEs that have some treasury issues that can be solved by renegotiating the debt or other financial solutions.
- Closing: help the business owner to close the business in a proper way, avoiding that he or she keeps the debt once the business is closed and encouraging to them to launch another business again, by destigmatize the failure.

Nowadays HelpEmpresa runs with a multidisciplinary team of 15 consultants.
Evidence of success
Since December 2021 till May 2024 HelpEmpresa has advised more than 800 enterprises in Catalonia (Spain).
Potential for learning or transfer
HelpEmpresa is a good practice put in place in Catalonia of the Early Warning Europe Project (EWE). EWE is a project whose main objective is to create a European legal framework to help companies at risk of failing, providing free, impartial and confidential assessments. EWE builds new best practice and draws on existing experience from Early Warning Denmark, TEAM U in Germany and Dyzo in Belgium showing that free and impartial guidance for companies in distress has a positive impact - not only on the survival chances and financial performance of the companies, but also on society.
The implementation of Early Warning mechanisms across Europe uses and develops European best practice, and will help save jobs, promote growth and improve public finances.
