About this good practice
The need to have a tool that allows the company to develop new models and the possibility of customizing small productions with engravings and new shapes that with traditional techniques would be very expensive and difficult to do, made Luesma&Vega search for innovative solutions. They incorporated the knowledge and machinery to implement a CNC milling machine in the model development stage and small productions.
This technology allowed them to develop new models and processes that traditional techniques do not, such as scale-up of molds, reproduction of textures, model customization, responding to customer demand and research with new materials.
In addition to the incorporation of the machine, training was required to learn about how to use it as well as the programs for the design process, graphic elements, 3D, specific milling programs.
This technology has allowed them to expand their product catalogue and services according to the demand.

Resources needed
The complete machinery was about 3.000 euros.
Human resources: 1 person, trained in a 1-month course and a period of research that is still in practice.

Evidence of success
They have been able to produce new products for the catalogue and have optimized the production of molds, reducing their costs, and providing new possibilities.
The initial costs have not been covered yet, but almost.

Potential for learning or transfer
The fact of having to learn how to use a new machine followed by several trainings, means that the knowledge learned can be transferred to other production stages as well as other similar industries.
Sharing this experience can be used as an inspiration to others.
