About this good practice
La Ciudad Amable was designed by the Regional Government of Development, Infrastructure and Territorial Planning to improve the way public administrations renovated the public buildings and urban spaces, from a social and sustainable approach.
The Regional Programme of Public Spaces, PREP, financed by ERDF (Axis 6.e. OT 6 OP 2014-2020) with the objective of improving environmental quality in Andalusia's cities, has carried out 250 projects since 1998. The most important ones in historical centres, sites and Cultural Interest Assets.
2013- PILOT ACTION was launched, as PREP additional activity, to test new methodology and selection criteria and adopt it in following Calls. This initiative, addressed to municipalities, had three steps, involving stakeholders, training, projects development and dissemination, with a social, environmental and multi sector approach. The selection criteria: urban-environmental quality, public space enhancement, sustainable mobility, accessibility and connectivity, participation-social integration, promotion of employment&gender equality, energy efficiency, innovation, possibility of replicability. The evaluation was very positive so LCA has been replicated.
This GP is linked to the VIOLET multisector approach, capacity building, improving criteria selection and methodologies in public calls for urban and historical areas interventions based on carbon emissions reduction, and combating urban obsolescence and the abandonment of historic centre.

Selection criteria for projects proposing measures which imply an improvement of urban and environmental quality, by reducing carbon emissions and noise, and the promotion of the use of urban public spaces and social participation.
