About this good practice
The traditional local products in Marginimea Sibiului reflect the richness of the region but also its cultural heritage and this can be notice through its local products such as the telemea fresh cheese made of local sheep milk, or urda (ricotta), or burduf (old sheep cheese) and the traditional brandy. The different varieties of cheese in Marginimea Sibiului are an important part of the region’s culinary tradition and therefore a relevant part of its tourism.
In this context, the Municipality of Rasinari launched in 2003 the Cheese and Brandy Festival in Rasinari. This event is innovative as it was one of the first events of its kind. The main objectives of the event are:
- To promote local gastronomic products to the general public;
- To help local producers in promoting and selling their products.
The Cheese and Brandy Festival in Rasinari Municipality takes place every year in the last week of August and has became an event with a specific regional brand. The festival is a great opportunity for tourists/travelers to taste delicious local products. Main stakeholders involved: The Municipality of Rasinari, The Association of Guesthouses in Rasinari, The Local Action Group, the County Council of Sibiu.
Beneficiaries: local community of Rasinari, local producers in Marginimea Sibiului, Romanian and foreign tourists/visitors, guesthouses in Rasinari, artists etc. The event is perfect for those interested in both culinary tradition and local culture.
