About this good practice
A City with more than population of 578,000 inhabitants with strong commitment with energy through the Malaga Smart Plan, including:
1) Plan for Electric Vehicle Mobility in Malaga consisting on transfer public land for private use in order to install, maintain and operate a public electric vehicle (EV) recharging network in the City of Malaga. 30 electric chargers are under deployment.
2) Implementation of Photovoltaics in roofs with 43 already implemented facilities and 24 new plants scheduled for 2021 and 2022. The generation from the new plants is estimated at around 1600 kWp as well as a project understudy of a Solar Park for self-consumption of 10 to 30 MW.
3) SMART COSTA DEL SOL project is implementing a Smart Platform and control panel under an Open Data portal together with 12 municipalities of the Costa del Sol co-operating in an initiative that demonstrates the use of technology as a resource optimizer for local entities.
4) “INTELLIGENT BUILDINGS PILOTS” (CENTESIMAL) initiative is the deployment of sensors in 218 buildings (8 at the University) for a number of use cases. Each building contains an IoT node. This integrated IoT network provides the information to a smart city platform. Like: Primary care: “Heart Attack Button” App + defibrillators location, Reduction of electricity consumption in buildings, Public lighting remote management and automation, Urban climate and air quality data treatment, or Location of EV chargers and parking lots, amongst others.

Evidence of success
1 ) Recharging network for EVs: 30 chargers installed
2 ) Photovoltaic Plants: 1.600 kWp of electric energy power. That means 312 MWh of energy generation and 93 tCO2eq of emissions avoided to the atmosphere.
3) Smart Costa del Sol: 13 municipalities of the Costa del Sol involved among others in, energy efficiency in buildings,
4 )CENTESIMAL: 218 buildings adapted with sensors for eleven cases of use.

Potential for learning or transfer
Today cities has to be configured as SMART CITIES, setting a path for sustainability and the promotion of numerous innovative projects; highlighting energy efficiency actions, promotion and attraction of R + D + i, as well as the acceleration of companies, to improve the management of the city and in the reduction of the costs of public services, as well as the well-being of its citizens; Malaga thus aims to be a European benchmark both for the transformation of innovative ideas, and for the development and hosting of technology companies.
The aim is to consolidate a city model where the inclusion of Information and Communication Technologies is not taken as the sole objective, but is itself technically, economically and environmentally sustainable, driven by an effective management of municipal resources. Other European cities may replicate the Programme and their implementations and may find replicable reference in the procedures and in the achievements obtained in Malaga.
