About this good practice

Malaga City Council is very aware of and committed to respecting the environment, favouring any new sustainable development action aimed at preventing and minimising the environmental impact that may arise from the events that take place in our city.

Therefore, the objective of Malaga Film Office as the City Council's filming office is that audiovisual activities are developed based on criteria of quality, health safety, mobility, responsible consumption, etc… in short, sustainability criteria that contribute to sustainable development with an important added value for society.
In order to achieve this goal, the City Council -via Málaga Film Office in collaboration with Promálaga and the Municipal Department of Environmental Development - has implemented The Malaga Sustainable Production Seal: Once it has been proven that the measures indicated by the Municipal Department of the Environment put into practice, Málaga Film Office will carry out an overall assessment of the production and will award the SEAL OF A SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION which acts as a guarantee that the production in our city took place in a sustainable manner.

-Recycling points in proximity of the filming locations.

Resources needed

None: the practice is offered at no cost to producers. The human resources, as well as any material given by our City Council, are provided free of charge as part of our municipal services.

Evidence of success

The project is nowadays a reality, serving as guidance for audiovisual productions to implement and certify the use of a criteria that improves sustainability in filming.

As of today, we have granted TEN SEALS which means 10 productions complied with the required sustainability measures. We have created a network that enables us to plan sustainable productions.

Potential for learning or transfer

Being a public service and aware of the position we are in – as the "door" of the productions in our city - we take the opportunity of involving them, emphasizing sustainability as an additional free service. We raise awareness that this MUST BE the way to work, encouraging everyone to move in this direction.

PUBLIC FUNDED INSTITUTIONS must promote these measures to bring awareness & commitment to all audiovisual projects. Therefore, the production companies learn tools to be used in future shootings PROTECTING THE MOST IMPORTANT LOCATION THAT WE HAVE…THE PLANET! (OUR MOTTO)
