Expert opinion
Slovenia's Eco Fund has supported a project with excellent educational potential: a passive wooden kindergarden with PV on the roof.
This relatively innovative design will educate the next generation to the benefits of natural material and make the vision of PV an integral part of thier every-day life.

Resources needed
Total investment was 2,5 million € from which was 420.000 € in form of grants (Eco Fund). The building’s high environmental performance is achieved, thanks to the use of natural materials in construction.
Evidence of success
Kindergarten is first passive wooden kindergarten in Slovenia with a photo voltaic power plant on its roof. Passive wooden kindergarten’s annual heating demand is lower than 15 kWh/m². The use of renewable energy sources enables the kindergarten’s carbon footprint to be further reduced by cutting down the need for fossil fuels.
Potential for learning or transfer
Building this first passive wooden kindergarten was a technical challenge and also it wouldn't be possible to build it without of support in form of government grants. Therefore new financial solutions for public buildings were developed. Representatives of Municipality of Preddvor and Eco Fund are available for detailed informations on this project.
