About this good practice
The non-profit cooperative Bios Coop has about 430 members and operates its grocery store in Thessaloniki.
Circular Economy actions undertaken by Bioscoop include:
-Sell at low price fresh food (fruits and vegetables) that are unsuitable for the market but suitable for eating to the Community Centre 'Next Stop' operating with staff mainly of deaf and hard listening people.
-Dissemination of wood pallets for free to people who use them for constructions, so that they can be reused in something useful.
- Product packaging reduction
- Use only reusable or biodegradable bags instead of plastic ones.
-The store shelves, as well as the vast majority of the equipment (refrigerators, warehouse, etc.) are reused.
-Cooperation with ‘Peliti’, which promotes traditional varieties of seeds, which contribute to the preservation of biodiversity.
-Recycling of paper, plastic, plastic caps (which are converted into a wheelchair), batteries, packaging, etc.
