Seminar about collected food fraud analyses, that Slovenian R&D institutions make, for food safety experts
About this good practice
The most efficient food fraud control is analysing raw materials. If raw materials are frauded, then final product is frauded. That is why, it is very important to detect and eliminate frauded materials before entering production process, in order to produce authentical food products. Very common problem in SMEs is lack of resources, good connections (especially with R&D institutions) and consequently lack of knowledge.
That is why we collected food fraud analyses, that Slovenian R&D institutions are performing. After that, we made an online seminar, on which research analyst from Slovenian R&D institutions presented their area of work regarding food fraud: National Institute of Chemistry, Jozef Stefan Institute, National laboratory of health, environment and food, Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, National institute of biology, Slovenian institute of hop research and brewing, Institute for Olive culture, University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty and Institute of diary science and probiotics. We have invited food safety experts from SMEs and other food companies, to get familiar with R&D institutions and people, who are making food fraud analyses, to know who to contact, when they need food fraud analyses for their raw materials.
Resources needed
The resources required are human resources-we needed one person to communicate with lecturers and prepare everything for the online seminar (link, certificates of attendance...).
Evidence of success
Participants were very satisfied with the topic of the seminar and the lectures. They point out, that connections with R&D institutions are very important for them, when they need certain analyses. We had quite a lot participants, the interest in the seminar was high.
Potential for learning or transfer
This seminar could be implemented in all countries and is very useful for all companies, who need external food fraud analyses for their raw materials.
