Social housing & economic support
About this good practice
The problem addressed is poverty and the increasing impoverishment of families (latest estimates 9 million poor in Italy), which generates as its first consequence the loss of housing. The need of the social service is to identify general and operational strategies to deal with this emergency.
The service offers housing paths temporary with social purpose (in flat groups or social housing accommodation facilities. A particular support is given tailored on beneficiaries needs and is focus on the following activities. The identification of housing needs is based on ETHOS European classification.
Main beneficiaries are vulnerable families, people in prison, women victims of violence or for the elderly and fragile people with partial capacity reduction (Coop Nuovi vicini, Coop Noncello, Coop ACLI, other private facilities third sector).
Together with stakeholders Ambito Noncello collaborates with specific assignment, in the form of accreditation, in co-planning for the management of innovative experimentation in supportive housing (Coop Noncello, FAI, Nuovi vicini).
Resources needed
The good practice is developed by Ambito though the “social service” The staff is formed by 20 people: 1 responsible, all social workers and 1 public worker.
Financial resources are provided by Region and Municipality level.
Evidence of success
The evaluation of the project highlights the improvement of the ability of people to manage the family budget, the economic intervention for the maintenance of the home or the finding of intermediate solutions. It maintains the serenity necessary to face other challenges, such as work, and contributes to a greater well-being of people and to reduce the impact of poverty, that increases social inequalities and different access to resources and opportunities (training, culture, sport, health)
Potential for learning or transfer
Policy has taught us to strengthen integrated work among practitioners through organizing in teams at different levels and with different professional skills, together with suitable tools and methods. All this needs constant direction, monitoring and adjustment to constantly cope with changing issues.
