Transcarpathian Archeological and Cultural Route
About this good practice
Transcarpathian Archeological and Cultural Route leads through the mountain areas of Poland and Slovakia border. The route helps to discover precious archaeological artefacts from the area. The artefacts are presented in natural context.
Some structures are built on the route also. These are reconstructions of prehistoric buildings: residential buildings, farm buildings, ramparts, craftsmen's workshops. Elements of tourist infrastructure facilitating access to attractions on the route are also built. The route and attractions on the route were marked.
The visitors of the route have an opportunity to observe how people used to live in the past. Educational program consists of a cultivation of plants or breeding of animals etc. Visitors have also the opportunity to take part in reenactments showing a prehistoric crafts. The actors of this reenactments are professionals as well as local inhabitants. The aim of the route is to promote cultural heritage and to get to know shared history of the cross-border area.

Financed from Interreg Poland – Slovakia programme (2014-2020). Total budget: 1 411 303,85 EUR.
Evidence of success
Evident success is very good cooperation between Polish and Slovak museums. Attractions on the route and new infrastructure helped to improve cultural offer of Polish and Slovak museums. The route – new product of cultural tourism helped to promote cultural and natural heritage. Cross-border route helped to understand common cultural roots of two nations.
Potential for learning or transfer
The idea of promotion of shared cultural heritage on the cross-border area through the route could be used in all cross-border areas with common culture.
