About this good practice
Via Compromiso is an invitation to public and private entities for collaboration with society through the Greenways. Entities can collaborate voluntarily in the realization of projects that achieve the restoration, improvement and desirable conditions of excellence of the Greenways of the Region of Murcia.
With Vía Compromiso public entities and companies are given the opportunity to collaborate in the development of proposals that develop specific actions, but which are open and flexible in view of the needs and opportunities that may arise in the future.
The Public Entities and the interested companies will be able to boost their vocation towards sustainability, responsibility and commitment to social welfare.
After the implementation of this initiative, the Consortium signs a collaboration agreement with the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions, to comply with labor penalties for the benefit of the community.
The purpose of this agreement is to establish the form of collaboration between the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions and the Consortium of Greenways of the Region of Murcia, for the effective enforcement of labor penalties for the benefit of the community, through the provision for the convicts of certain activities of public utility, in their area of competence.
With this, the Consortium obtains a totally free workforce and the convicts comply with the labor penalties for the benefit of the community in a natural environment.

Evidence of success
It is considered as good practice, given the free nature of the Consortium and also, we consider it as a social benefit for the people who fulfill said works.
From the year 2016 that we started, there have been more than 130 people who have served their work for the benefit of the community in the different Greenways of the Region of Murcia.
These works have consisted of clearing, cleaning gutters, tree pruning, tree irrigation, painting of wooden railings, conditioning of tree-lined trees....

Potential for learning or transfer
All greenways need a daily maintenance, which entails a great economic effort. Therefore, this type of agreements are transferable to any other Region or Country, because it provides us with a free workforce, to carry out the essential maintenance tasks, in order to give a good service to the users of the Greenways.
