Virtual gallery "Notice the Signs Around Us"
About this good practice
The virtual gallery “Notice the Signs Around Us” was born as part of the jubilee week of the internationally renowned cultural psychologist Professor Jaan Valsiner held at Tallinn University. It is based on a campaign during which we invited Estonian people to submit photos, drawings, stories and keywords about the changes they have experienced in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The photos, mostly taken with mobile phones, drawings and keywords were collected during the campaign. The aim of this gallery is to create a bridge between different ways of feeling into the pandemic, to juxtapose them, to connect them, to reflect upon them. People are called to notice the experiences of the pandemic of others, to look behind and beyond these. Through the exhibition, people are invited to elaborate on the changes felt by others.
Resources needed
Such project does not need much additional resources, just a website and marketing activities.
Evidence of success
Success can be measured through the number of pictures and photos uploaded to the system and through the number of people participating in this call.
Potential for learning or transfer
In spring 2020 the new and the old world collided, and while the old carried on, the new need to find a way to coexist with it. The world as we knew seemed to disappear, to change into another. But this ambiguity gave rise to dialogue, an opportunity to become otherwise. This initiative helps people to in engage through simple, yet powerful crowdsourcing platform. The project allows people to see, discuss, analyze and accept the rapid changes in the society that COVID19 has caused.
