About this good practice
1) The Tackling the Climate Emergency Plan outlines the region’s approach to reaching net-zero carbon by 2038 and what will need to be done to get there. This will cover all areas of the economy from decarbonising industrial facilities to transportation.
2) The Plan details a number of key areas of action where government, private sector and other organisations need to play a part in reaching net-zero.
3) The Plan recognises that our region hosts a large number of SMEs and to meet net-zero we will need to provide flexible support that allows SMEs to decarbonise and enhance their competitiveness, as well as improving the uptake of automation and digitalisation.

• The action plan is bringing forward a multifaceted action plan that covers all areas of the economy and strategic leadership and planning to secure significant transformation of the economy and environment.
• Delivery of the action plan is heavily focused on collaboration and partnership working between the public and private sectors. Local government, academic institutions, other public bodies and the private sector all have a role to play and must be consulted during the development of plans.
• Inclusion is central to the plan – ensuring that everyone benefits from the opportunities presented when tackling the climate emergency.
