On 17 February, the Policy Learning Platform is hosting the fourth and last episode of the waste management series on collection and recycling of construction and demolition waste, from 14:00 to 15:30 CET, in the format of a webinar.
Construction and demolition waste (CDW) accounts for more than a third of all waste generated in the EU. It contains a wide variety of materials such as concrete, bricks, wood, glass, metals and plastic. It includes all the waste produced by the construction and demolition of buildings and infrastructure, as well as road planning and maintenance. Technology for the separation and the recovery of construction and demolition waste is well established, readily accessible and generally inexpensive. Despite its potential, the level of recycling and material recovery of C&D waste varies greatly across the EU, ranging from less than 10% to over 90%.
Many regions and cities are therefore looking for suitable solutions to address the issue of construction and demolition waste and the webinar aspires to offer inspiration for the circular treatment of this waste stream.
