About the project
Bioenergy valleys are areas where diversified biomass processing plants are concentrated. With a carefully planned location that takes into account the profile of local crops, the energy and heat needs of surrounding cities and industrial plants, and the existence of adequate road infrastructure, bioenergy valleys are able to achieve large economies of scale. These same factors make the creation of such valleys difficult.
The project aims to create policies for the creation of bioenergy valleys. As the main result of the project, local governments will be provided with a blueprint for the steps needed to create bioenergy valleys, including a system for creating public-private partnerships and encouraging private participation.
The benefits of the creation of bioenergy valleys will be the heat and controllable electricity generated, the by-products of the valleys' activities, the jobs created, and the opportunity for farmers to become more diversified in the crops they undertake.
