About the project
With many shallow and sheltered harbours shared by both marine life and motor & sail boats, the impact of anti-fouling paints used on the hulls of the boats has been detrimental for the health of the marine ecosystem of the Baltic Sea. The problem is caused due to leaching of cooper and other toxic substances from the anti-fouling paints used to prevent the build-up of micro-organisms on boats hulls.
A typical leisure boat that applies anti-fouling paint every 24 months uses 2kg of copper. The leaching rate per boat is 1kg of copper released into the harbour annually. Over a 10-year period a boat would release 10kg of copper into the harbour.
A solution to stop usage of anti-fouling is to switch to brush-washing boats’ hull in water.
The prepared solution is called Drive-in Boat Wash, which does 4 boat washes per hour, which means a boat can be washed in just 15min.
Our company wants to introduce this envir.friendly technology in Estonia and the Baltic States, need financing.
