About the project
The European Wilderness and Ecological Corridors Initiative (EWECI) seeks to enhance biodiversity conservation across the EU by developing a standardized methodology for identifying, mapping, and legally recognizing ecological corridors and wilderness areas. Leveraging the Natura 2000 network, EWECI aims to address legislative gaps and inconsistencies in managing these vital areas. The initiative focuses on improving connectivity between biodiversity hotspots, supporting sustainable regional development, and enhancing habitat resilience. By integrating these areas into regional and national strategies, EWECI will advance conservation efforts, aligning with the EU's goals for biodiversity preservation and sustainable landscape management
