About the project
In past decades, the needs of car drivers commuting during peak hours have often been the focus of mobility planning, as well as the policies that support and promote sustainable mobility in cities. More often than not, multimodal transport offer tends to cater mainly for the able bodied "average user". This approach not only hinders the objective of decreasing transport related CO2 emissions but is also non-inclusive and unjust for many citizens. Although the rights of women and children or vulnerable groups should be equally respected and EU and national legislation directly guarantee equal rights, the current mobility planning approach underserves women and other vulnerable user groups on a daily basis. By overlooking the needs of underserved users, urban areas not only hamper the decarbonisation of urban transport but also contribute to social exclusion and inequality. The INCLUDES project will directly address the lack of inclusiveness in European regions' mobility policies.
