About the project
Restorative justice is based on the principle that the most effective responses to crime are those which hold offenders accountable for their behaviour in ways that reintegrate them into society rather than increase their sense of isolation. The objective is to help offenders to understand the consequences of their actions and to make relationships with others in the community. By showing offenders the full impact of their behaviour on all those around them, restorative justice can encourage real and lasting change.
Attention to rates of recidivism is an important way to monitor the role of prisons in rehabilitating inmates. The program should provide rehabilitation, training and education, offender employment and reintegration, offender employment opportunities , developing work habits, experience, training and skills, increasing offenders’ chances for post-release employment.
